About Us

Our Story

Camp Migdal, founded in 2013, was founded by a parent, Mr. Tzvi Miltz, when his own daughter with special needs, Chaya Suri, along with fifty others, needed a summer camp to attend. As we have grown and expanded to meet the growing needs of our special needs community, we now operate in our very own grounds with close to one hundred campers and more than double the number of staff. We are grateful for the reputation we’ve earned and are proud of the work we do. We continue learning more each summer and extend ourselves in additional ways that can further help our campers and their families.

Our Programs

Our program combines recreational, educational and therapeutic activities as well as ADL skills and individualized goals. Campers enjoy highly structured and fun filled days, every day of the week. There are also exciting activities, shows, concerts, as well as daily swimming and much more.

Our ratio is 1.5:1; campers receive a one-to-one counselor. Other support staff include and are not limited to: Group leaders, teachers, waitresses, rotators, floaters, day camp counselors, mother’s helpers, lifeguards and more.

Counselors receive comprehensive training, support and ongoing coaching to bring out the best in themselves as well as their campers. Campers often improve their communication skills, master new goals and life skills, gain more independence, and enrich their quality of life as they are immersed in a round the clock therapeutic, goal oriented and loving environment.

Our Educational Department:

For a large part of the day, campers reinforce and maintain their skills in “school” as they are immersed in educational activities and lessons under the direction of devoted licensed teachers. Campers are grouped according to abilities and appropriate peers and work on maintaining the skills that were taught during the year, as well as learn new skills. Every day is highly structured and includes daily routines, daily instruction, exercise and movement, learning time, regulation and massage time, ADL practice, academic summer homework, implementation of IEP goals, music and singing, sensory play and activities, art, crafts, baking, swimming, planting, outdoor play, sports and more.

Our Therapy Department:

Throughout the day, our campers receive individual therapies such as Occupational Therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT), Speech Therapy (SLP), and Aqua Therapy. At times, classes receive group therapies as they learn various skills in a group setting. All therapists are licensed, dedicated, and caring. Counselors are trained to maximize the camp experience by observing therapy sessions and implementing therapeutic practices, thereby allowing for carryover and generalization of therapeutic skills.

Our Medical Department:

Our Medical Team is comprised of a Head Nurse, a team of experienced Registered Nurses, an EMT, under the care of our dedicated Pediatric Specialist, Dr. Itchie Statfeld, MD. We cater to children with various medical needs and provide individualized medical care and attention, as well as accommodating specific dietary needs. Daily assessments on the overall health and well- being are conducted for each camper to ensure that no medical need is left unattended.

Our Campers

Our campers are our biggest heroes. They teach us about the important things in life and what truly matters. We continue to be inspired by their determination, growth, and the power of a smile. Our campers eloquently demonstrate that despite any physical or cognitive challenges they may face, their personalities shine brightly, radiating resilience, creativity, and warmth. Through their laughter, determination, and kindness, they teach us the invaluable lesson that true strength and beauty lie within the unique diversity of every individual.

Campers: Ages 4-21

Camp Migdal is a home to campers with neurological and developmental disabilities such as, but not limited to:

  • Autism (ASD)
  • Down Syndrome
  • Cerebral Palsy and Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Epilepsy
  • Intellectual Disabilities

Each camper receives an in-person interview/observation by one of our camp directors to ensure that each child can flourish in our camp. They are also contacted by our medical team, and by their teacher and counselor to acquaint themselves with the camper.
